We opened Pico Me Up thinking that tourism was our category of work, and because Pico island is so famous for the unforgettable sunrises in the middle of the Atlantic, we were in the perfect position to help serve the tourism industry. We were ready to make tourists happy by visiting the highest point of Portugal, where rocks produce the miraculous wine and Unesco protects large parts of the island because it is that precious. But, we soon realized that we were involved with a much larger cause than serving tourists; we are in the industry of helping people find the best version of themselves. We improve their mental, physical and emotional health. It’s like we are the brokers to a psychologist, the mountain, the island, is THERAPY.
That’s when we realized, as much as therapy is an individual task, if a community goes through it together, the results are multiplied. From the stress that occurs naturally from schedules, deadlines, and the often easability to ignore the importance of connection and play in such a setting, it was evident that the mountain could change the way we view everyday work. How? By collectively guiding business owners and their team to nature’s greatest psychologist - climbing the mountain.
A business owner, while being confronted with everyday duties, constantly faces back-end uncertainties and the constant process of adapting to changes in order for their business and the livelihoods of their team to continue. And we all know that changes are happening faster and with least warning than ever before.
